Circuit Simulation Software for Mac

This is a list of circuit simulation softwares for Mac. Since most of the circuit simulators run on Windows, it may be a problem for Mac users. Here I present you 10 of the best circuit simulation tools available on Mac that allow you to design, analyse and test a circuit virtually on a computer. The programs below may provide either analog or digital simulation capabilities or both, have a schematic editor, a waveform viewer, support resistors, capacitors, diodes, etc.

1. EasyEDA  

EasyEDA is a tool based on the cloud platform which facilitates schematic drawing, spice simulation and PCB layout, so it works in almost any web browser on Mac, Linux, Windows and Android. EasyEDA can verify analog, digital, and mixed signal circuits with spice subcircuits and models and get results quickly from the cloud-based servers. This simulator is also very powerful and operates from a web browser. It offers many components and is based on a different version of SPICE: ngspice. On the website you can find and use many projects and electronic circuits made by others because they are public and open hardware. It's free and also allows you to share your work with others.

2. Qucs 

Qucs is a circuit simulator with graphical user interface. The software aims to support all kinds of circuit simulation types, e.g. DC, AC, S-parameter, Transient, Noise and Harmonic Balance analysis. Pure digital simulations are also supported. Qucs works on almost any operating systems such as Solaris, Apple Macintosh, Microsoft windows, FreeBSD, NetBSD etc. The program is released under the GNU General Public License in source code form, so you will need to compile it yourself before you can run it.

3. NGSPICE Online

This site allows you to run ngspice simulations from a web browser environment. Whether you are using a Windows, Linux, or Mac computer, a smart phone, or a tablet, you always should be able to run a SPICE simulation! This site also has various resources to help new users learn how to simulate electronic circuits. Documentation for SPICE, example circuits, a SPICE blog and forum will help both new and advanced users get the simulation results they need.

4. MacSpice 

This is a Mac version of the SPICE circuit simulator. It works on both the Intel Macs as well as the older PowerPC Macs. This breadboard simulator can perform simulation ranging from a single resistor to an integrated circuit with thousands of devices and components packed together. The program appears to be free for non-commercial use only (that is, although it uses Spice3 which is open source, the overall Mac port seems to have a more restrictive licence).

5. LT Spice Simulator

LTSPICE is available from a mainstream analog chip company, Linear Technology, works on Windows, OS X. It can run on your Mac under WINE. Although it is biased towards using their parts, it is flexible and can be used with other vendor's parts. LTspice is much fast simulation of switching regulators with enhanced SPICE. LTspice gives access to over 200 op amp models, transistor models, MOSFET models etc. A high disadvantage of LTspice is its proprietary code base which is licensed by Linear Technology. Had they made it open source, LTspice could have gone places with collaborative development.

6. TinaCloud 

Tina Cloud is an affordable circuit simulation tool you can analyze & design analog, digital, VHDL, MCU, and mixed electronic circuits including also SMPS, RF, communication, and optoelectronic circuits and test microcontroller applications in a mixed circuit environment. TINACloud runs on most OSs and computers.

7. DC/AC Lab

DC/AC Lab is an Online circuit simulation tool, limited to simple circuits. Works with any system with a web browser. It 's definitely a great program for teaching, very easy to use. it makes you see the components as they are made. It does not allow you to design the circuit, but only to make practice.

8. iCircuit APP

It is a mobile app that will appeal to students, hobbyists and engineers comes from iCircuit. Schematic capture and simulation for both analog and digital analysis. There are over 30 elements from resistors to MOSFETs and digital gates. There are versions for OS X, Windows, iOS, and Android at between $4.99 and $9.99 depending on platform.

9. Logicly

Logicly is a easy to use digital logic simulator written in Java, works on Macintosh OS X, Linux, and Windows.It’s has a friendly user interface and really easy to check your circuit logic.

10. Mccad

McCAD modules take the designer through the complete design cycle: Schematic capture, Simulation (analog & digital), Printed Circuit Board layout, Autorouting and Gerber generation for board fabrication. It runs on Macintosh OS X, Linux, and Windows.
