Sodium Ions Rechargeable Battery Prototype

A joint of French science institutions just publish an article that claim they produced a rechargeable battery prototype using sodium ions (Na+). This battery has 90 Wh/Kg storage specific energy capacity, what is close to the early lithium batteries.

The sodium ions great advantage for making batteries, instead of lithium, is that sodium is cheap and common. The disadvantage is that it is less efficient as a charge carrier, so it´s necessary to develop…

Eye Controlled wheelchair

Patrick Joyce has a disease called Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS), the same disease from Stephen Hawking. Tired of depending from other people to help with his locomotion, he decided to innovate.

Using an eye-tracking device, vary common on England, he created a device that move an electric wheelchair using the eyes movements, using almost just an Arduino, some relays and servo motors. The system, called Eyedrivomatic, is open hardware and open software so it…

New Bio-Prothesis Technology

The OpenBionics just showed a new fabrication method from a hand prosthesis that can help many people. The actual prosthesis have problems like movement’s limitations, price and weight.

However, the OpenBionics new method, presented at 2015 Hackaday Prize, can solve all these problems. The model have just two motors and, with a very smart design, their hand can make 144 different positions. They also have made a 3D CAD model that can be resized and fabricated with…

Developing Micro-Lidars

Light Detection and Ranging (LIDAR) works just like the radar. The lidar take distances measures by illuminating objects with a laser and analyzing the reflected light.

Researchers at Florida University are creating a developing method for micro-lidars que emits invisible light, save for humans eyes, and weight just 56 miligrams. The forecast is that in three years they will finish the technology foundation.
