"Good idea on separate contrast and backlight controls. I was a little concerned that the timing would get hosed and one or both displays would have garbage on them, but now that I think about it, I don't think the Arduino "listens" to…"

"Never tried it, but the Arduino should have plenty of drive to control two displays assuming you are talking low cost 2x16 displays. Use separate controls for contrast and backlight."

Two LCDs in Parallel?

If I hook two LCDs to an Arduino to one set of pins (so each Arduino digital pin has two wires going to two LCDs), would they work? I want to LCDs to display the same thing, but I also need six digital inputs for buttons; being able to control two LCDs from one set of pins would make it easier for me (rather than setting up a resistor network for the buttons or a parallel to serial converter).Any ideas or suggestions?See More

"That's pretty much my experience as well.  Programming is fun, but being able to interact with things outside of the computer is pretty awesome."

"Given that you were able to hook it all up and go so far as to make a functional UI with an LCD and a few buttons, I'd say you've gotten the hang of it!  Do you have a lot of programming experience?"

"I just tried my LCD to see what happens.  If the LCD and backlight are powered, the contrast pot doesn't do anything and the display is just blank (exactly what yours is doing).  I suppose that means that the Arduino isn't…"

GPS with GP-635

Posted on December 21, 2012 at 4:19am 0 Comments

So many GPS receivers nowadays keep the consumer far removed from the data that they use.  I wanted to get a GPS receiver module but most of them were more than I was willing to spend for a part that I didn't actually have a project for.  SparkFun started…
